Getting the next unique DOORS ID in a module?

Is there anyway to get what the next unique DOORS identifier will be before adding a new object to a module? Perhaps an undocumented function? Thanks in advance.

What do you plan on doing with the information? The unique identifier is simply an identifier, its value is ultimately unimportant, In my experience, I've found that people who are unfamiliar with DOORS place a greater value on the identifier than is warranted because they are most usually familiar with Word or Excel based requirements management, where only the specific requirements get a tag. If that's an issue, education is the best solution.

Otherwise, I haven't seen any way to do this. I imagine that the information is stored in the actual database files rather than within the module.

You can create an object, get its ID, purge it, add one to the ID and voila :-) You could also look at the history, but that is rather unreliable. For what do you need that? Regards, Mathias

The history is not 100% reliable neither, if you create an object, then delete and purge it but close the module without saving, there will be no trace of the object in the history.
